Francisco Castillo Trigueros,
Monólogo Fantástico, for solo bass clarinet
(2008) Francisco
Castillo Trigueros is a Mexican composer I worked with in Amsterdam, and
Monólogo Fantástico is the piece he wrote for me. It explores the
different timbres of the instrument in its most extreme ranges. This
recording is from a performance at
DNK-Amsterdam.
Heinz Joachim Zander, Ballade for bass clarinet and piano This piece is not very well
known, but nice. It exemplifies the enormous range capabilities of the
bass clarinet.
Jason Alder, bass clarinet; Randy Blouse, piano
(2005)
Sonido 13 is an electro-acoustic improvisation ensemble I started
with
Harry Cherrin, saxophone, and
Jacob Adler, piano, synth, computer,
and myself on bass clarinet and live processing. We have begun
collaborating frequently with a wide variety of musicians and artists,
as featured here. These tracks are the results from various
sessions and concerts we played.

These are new
ensemble pieces in which I've played. All of these are from composers I
worked with in Amsterdam.
Thanasis Deligiannis, I was
Hunting, but I did not Know
Jellanstje de Vries, violin; Virginia
Flores Villareal, flute; Jason Alder, bass clarinet; Uxía Martínez
Botana, double bass; Nicoloai Slaatto, percussion; Thanasis Deligiannis,
cond.
Painting their faces white, they started.
He was playing- wth the deer.
tearing them apart and putting the pieces back together-
he was giving them life again.
In vain he was taking forms of animals to manage to escape
when the hunting started.
As a bull they caught him and ripped him and ate him
half raw and half cooked.
He was there too, the Titan of aporia.
He was hunting, but he didn't know.
Thanasis Deligiannis, Lefkipi,
*premiere
Andriana Minou, piano, voice;
Carmen Ojeda Masías, alto flute; Jason Alder, bass clarinet; Samuel
Tamarit, violin; Melissa Schaak, violin; Marc Sabbah, viola; Isabel Vaz,
cello; Thanasis Deligiannis, cond.
The title refers to the myth of the three
Miniadae sisters (Lefkipi, Arsipi, Alkathoe) who scorn god Dionysus.
Punished by him, the three of them ripped the young son of Lefkipi in a
state of mania. The piece is actually a ritual of Lefkipi (the pianist)
who is trying to restore the fact in her memory and mourn her child by
honoring him through the revelation of the immolator. And the immolator
is no other but her.
Francisco Castillo Trigueros,
Solar
Liis Lulla, flute; Alexander van
Eerdewijk, oboe; Jason Alder, bass clarinet; Raphaela Danksgamüller,
duduk, Naomi Sato, sho; Isidro Ureña Guaba, guitar; Anna Steinkogler,
harp; Laurent Warnier, percussion, Arthur Ornée, violin; Maria Sofia
Espiga, viola; Saartje van Camp, cello; Santiago Botero, double bass;
Lucas Vis, cond.
Solar is written for an ensemble of 13 musicians that includes 3 non-Western intruments. The title of the piece makes an allusion to the sun and its energetic nature, which is reflected in the character of the music. More significantly, it refers to the Argentine artist Xul Solar, whose work the composer admires profoundly.
Natalia Dominguez Rangel,

Francine Vis, mezzo soprano; Jason
Alder, clarinet and bass clarinet; Aki Matsugi, trumpet; Marc Sabbah, viola; Constança
Blanc, cello; Jacek Mioduszewski, percussion; Simeon Morrow, cond.
There is a fact! = motion = movement
Photocopies of motion = people = style
Ridiculous as an expression
Descomposition of a gender
Experience the solitude with... and laugh
Look around you
We are all graphics

Hrodmarsson, trombone; Bert Damsma, tuba; Marc Sabbah, viola; Stephanie

This was an investigation of opposites. Extremes in register: high and low; in dynamics: loud and soft; in texture: dense-epmty-sublte-rough-slience, silence, silence...
Sound as silence.
Oda Yu,
Tanka for 5 instruments Ryu Cipris, flute; Jason Alder, clarinet; Margreet Mulder, horn; Lauren Saks, violin; Anna Heusler, cello
(2008)
This is an
electro-acoustic piece I wrote. The electronic accompaniment was played
and manipulated live by me in real time with various synthesizers, samplers, and midi
triggers. The recording of this live performance was used as the basis
for the accompaniment over which I played the bass clarinet.
Jason Alder, A'd Amssong for Bass
Clarinet and Electronics (2002)
These are electronic pieces I've done in the past under the
moniker Nerokerr.
Nerokerr, Gongs
(2007) written
using the software Ableton Live with Reason
Nerokerr, 5 Sweeps
(2001) an ambient-esque improvisation I
did on a Kurzweil K-2500 synthesizer
Nerokerr, Chaos
(2001) a noisy soundscape created
using the software Fruity Loops
These are from a recording session I did with the band
Tatune.
The improvisation sections of these tunes are very conversational. This
was one of the reasons I enjoyed playing with these guys.
Rustichella* good ol'
driving tune with band-wide dialogue in the middle section
Lit Marin ends with a very nice interaction between the upright bass and bass clarinet
Guillaume Heurtebize, guitar; Santiago Botero, double bass; Luca LH Marini, drums; Jason Alder, bass clarinet;
